Key purpose
The Auto Mechanic will be responsible for building and leading the company’s after-sales service capability for Changan vehicles in Sierra Leone. The successful candidate must be technically strong, highly practical, reliable, and capable of working independently. They will diagnose, repair, service, and maintain Changan vehicle models including, but not limited to the UNI-K, CS95, CS55, and Hunter pickup, while also helping the company train junior mechanics, establish workshop procedures, manage tools and diagnostic equipment, and support customer confidence in the brand.
Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Diagnosis, Repair, and Maintenance
- Perform inspection, diagnosis, servicing, and repairs on Changan vehicles, including SUVs and pickup models.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, electronic, suspension, braking, cooling, transmission, and engine-related issues.
- Use diagnostic tools and service manuals to identify faults accurately.
- Carry out routine maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacement, brake servicing, suspension checks, battery checks, cooling system service, and general inspections.
- Handle both preventive maintenance and breakdown repairs.
- Ensure all vehicles are repaired correctly the first time, with proper testing before release to customers.
After-Sales Service Leadership
- Lead the setup and daily operation of the workshop service function.
- Develop standard service procedures for inspection, repair, quality control, and vehicle handover.
- Advise management on tools, equipment, spare parts, diagnostic systems, and workshop requirements.
- Help establish customer service standards for after-sales support.
- Maintain accurate service records, repair histories, and warranty-related documentation.
Training and Capacity Building
- Train junior mechanics and workshop assistants in proper repair and maintenance methods.
- Build local technical capacity by teaching basic diagnostics, safe workshop practices, tool handling, and vehicle inspection procedures.
- Create simple checklists and work instructions that less-experienced staff can follow.
- Act as the main technical reference point for the workshop.
Parts, Tools, and Warranty Support
- Identify required spare parts and advise on stock levels for common service and repair items and ensure the right parts are ordered and used.
- Support warranty assessments by identifying whether failures are due to manufacturing defects, misuse, poor maintenance, road conditions, or external damage.
- Ensure tools, diagnostic equipment, lifts, compressors, and workshop equipment are properly used and maintained.
Customer and Field Support
- Explain technical issues to customers in a clear and professional manner.
- Support customer trust in the Changan brand through reliable repairs and honest technical advice.
- Assist with roadside or field support when needed.
- Provide feedback to management on common customer complaints, recurring technical issues, and local operating conditions.
Qualifications and Experience
- At least 5 years of experience as a senior auto mechanic, diagnostic technician, workshop foreman, or service technician
- Experience with Chinese vehicle brands and direct Changan Auto experience is highly preferred
- Strong knowledge of modern vehicles, including SUVs and pickup trucks
- Experience with vehicle diagnostics, electrical systems, sensors, ECUs, scan tools, and modern automotive technology
- Proven ability to repair and maintain engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, steering, cooling systems, air conditioning, and vehicle electrical systems
- Fluency in English
