Key Purpose

The Legal Assistant Officer is responsible to provide support to the legal department by assisting with the management of contracts, compliance activities, insurance policies, claims and other administrative/legal formalities for the subsidiaries of the group in Sierra Leone.  

 

Role and Responsibilities

Contracts and Transactions:

  • Assist in the review and preparation of contracts, agreements, and other legal documents under the guidance of senior legal personnel.
  • Support the legal department in ensuring that all contractual relationships comply with legal requirements.

 

Insurance/ Licencing Management:

  • Coordinate with local brokers for insurance policy matters.
  • Assist with real estate and vehicles activities, such as leases renewals, and ensure that insurance coverage is maintained.

 

Litigation and Claims:

  • Assist in the processing and organization of legal claims, including those related to shipping, insurance, labor, commercial, and administrative matters.
  • Support communication with external solicitors concerning court processes and filings.

 

Administrative Support:

  • Prepare documentation for compliance-related activities.
  • Assist in organizing meetings and drafting minutes.
  • Work in conjunction with the company secretary on necessary administrative tasks.

 

Legal Compliance:

  • Help in monitoring the code of conduct of AGL, compliance with corporate, commercial, contractual, labor, insurance, and public law matters.
  • Maintain updated records of corporate and contractual documents as required.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Law Degree (LLB) or any related field.
  • 2+ years of experience as Barrister and/or Solicitor.
  • Must hold a current practicing certificate.
  • Computer literate, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Although not decisive, a certain knowledge of the French language could be a plus.

  • Rigorous and efficiency in the management of the legal environment and group’s legal standards.
  • Autonomous able to exercise a high level of initiative.
  • Able to communicate efficiently on legal matters, including compliance, to a non-technical audience.
  • Able to work and provide deliverables with tight deadlines.
