Key Purpose
The Assistant Chief Accountant/Chief Accountant is responsible for leading and supervising the
accounting team, ensuring compliance with internal controls and financial regulations. The candidate will
manage the development of monthly financial reports, overseeing consolidated accounts and maintaining
financial accuracy across the organisation. Additionally, the role involves optimising accounting processes
and contributing to the department’s strategic development.
Role and Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Budgeting
- Assist Finance Director with Budget and Business Review Presentation Preparation.
- Assist in the preparation of MMR (Monthly Management Reports) for validation by the Finance Director.
- Oversee the monthly reconciliation process for the balance sheet and profit & loss accounts.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of annual financial statements Accounting and Compliance Oversight.
- Maintain accurate accounting records including general ledger, supplier, customer and individual accounts.
- Validate local supplier payments and foreign transactions.
- Oversee intercompany account with the group.
- Supervise tax preparation and filing, ensuring compliance with Sierra Leonean tax laws.
- Compute capital allowances and deferred tax calculations.
Operational and Cost Control
- Analyse expenses, operational expenditure, gross margin and capital expenditure.
- Supervise cashier operations, general ledger postings, supplier/vendor reconciliations and bank postings.
- Conduct full and perpetual stock audits to ensure inventory accuracy.
Internal Controls and Business Advisory
- Ensure internal controls and compliance measures are properly implemented.
- Act as liaison between finance and other departments for streamlined financial operations.
- Provide financial and business insights to senior management for strategic decision making.
- Supervise the preparation and filing of tax forms.
- Perform any other duties assigned.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field. (BSc/BA)
- Professional Certification (CIMA, ICA, ACCA, or equivalent) required (accepted in advance stages of completion)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role with at least 2 years in a supervisory position.
- Proficiency in MS Office, specifically Excel and accounting packages.
- Strong understanding of SL taxation laws, financial reporting and regulatory compliance.
